Lyons, Colorado – The objective was to create a 600 sq. ft. rear-yard living space abutting a 15 foot cliff to provide privacy and protection from the wind and sun. We took a courtyard approach and used materials in the project that complement the home’s architecture and the region’s main export, red sandstone. The use of wood, stucco, sandstone and xeric plantings combined with detailed craftmanship, outdoor lighting, and drip irrigation make this small space an oasis to the senses.
